Gemma and Nick’s DIY Jewel of a Wedding

Waaaay back when, in late Autumn of 2018, we had the pleasure of helping the now Mr and Mrs Pennell to plan their loved up DIY wedding in Siddington Village Hall. Now it must be said, that these guys were an absolute dream to work with, as right from the very beginning Bride Gemma knew exactly what she wanted….jewel tone! Those were words that reverberated round our first meeting and were the jumping off point for everything that came after. In her exact words she wanted “all the glitter, all the sparkles” and all the happiness we could muster.

Over the next year that we worked together, we helped Gemma find decor, suppliers and checked in for wedding consultation meetings at regular intervals, and as Gemma had chosen a gorgeous, but not quite wedding ready venue, there was a big transformation to prep and plan!

Gemma knew, that above all else, she wanted a day full of vibrancy and laughter, with a fun-filled atmosphere that meant all her guests could let their hair down and relax. She also had an incredible team of family helpers who got on board with tasks like creating home-made jewel toned bunting, miles of it (literally!) that they busily stitched and sewed for almost half a year beforehand.

Catering was provided by the ever wonderful Sarah and team from Taste the Love, who as you’ll know if you follow the Alternative Weddings blog are a firm favourite of ours and probably the caterer we’ve worked most with over the years. Sarah specialises in healthy but tasty treats, colourful food that is as gorgeous to the eyes as it is filling for the belly.

A family friend and ex-florist Judy provided some beautiful floral centre pieces for the tables and hung twisted willow circlets from the walls, using hollowed out log slices instead of vases that just worked perfectly with the bohemian woodland feel of the day. Luckily, Groom’s Nick’s sister was also a florist, which her own company Artemisia and she provided the absolutely stunning bridal bouquets and pin-holes that just blew everyone away!

The main highlights were the absolutely mind-blowing dessert tables, where friends and family were invited to bring a selection of cakes instead of having one traditional wedding cake (quite of few of Gemma and Nick’s nearest and dearest really outdid themselves with their Bake-Off worthy offerings!) and Gemma’s Dad’s band The USB’s -who took to the stage and delivered a blistering 1hr set of psychedelic surf-rock wearing Mexican wrestling masks whilst rocking-the-f*ck-out.

It was a stunning day and an absolute dream to be a part of. From start to finish each and every one of the guests were beaming from ear to ear.

Thank you so much Nick and Gemma for letting us help you shape your big day, we think we almost had as much fun as you did!
